It is said that Gindo-Hirumaki Tachi is a masterpiece that combines
the robustness and elegance of the swirl shape (Hirumaki) made
between the late Heian period and the Kamakura period.
Banded copper plate with silver plating of both hilt and sheath is made into swirl shape,
and the space is filled with black lacquer and the all metal fittings
are made by a technique of carving called relief (Sukidashibori).
The handguard (Tsuba) is in Mokko (Chaenomeles) shape.
The hilt head is larger and the crown (Kabutogane) is considerably larger than the tip (ishizuki).
It is believed that Gindo-Hirumaki Tachi was not a formal sword like a (Kaza-Tachi) decorative sword
or (Kenukigata Tachi), but a particular one used for practical use or votive offering.
